Chinyere and younger sibling Idam Igwe are in captivity, with their safety not guaranteed.  

Their abductors are demanding ransom of five million naira to release Chinyere Igwe, 11 years, and Idam Igwe, 5 years old, kidnapped from Ndi Uduma village, Oso-Edda in Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

Suspected kidnappers invaded Edda community and abducted the children and severely injured their grandfather, Nkama Olughu, who is aged 104.

Bounce News learnt that hoodlums stormed the area around 10pm on Thursday and shot sporadically.

Apprehensively, the parents of the children took to their heels, while the kidnappers used cutlass to cut the 104 years old man in his head.

The suspected kidnappers ransacked their house, packed out the valuables in it, including electronic devices, set them ablaze before whisking away the kids.

A village source described the incident as shocking to the people of the area, especially the fact that the affected family are members of Jehovah's witness.

“They marched to the residence of James Okoro and started shooting sporadically. They wanted to enter their house, but they did not succeed because of the protector. They pelted the louvers with gunshot.

“After, the man of the house managed to escape with his wife through the backdoor. Unfortunately, they forgot to move their children who were 7 and 5 years respectively.

“The kidnappers or hired killers now entered through the backdoor and took the two children away, burnt some of their properties.

“The same day, they visited James' father and butchered him with cutlass all over his body

“As I am talking to you, he has been rushed to Martha Hospital in Afikpo North Local Government Area for treatment. I am suspecting that they came to kill him,” the source said.

The Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Loveth Odah, said the 104 year old man was responding to treatment in the hospital.

She said police is investigating the matter.

She further confirmed that the suspects have established contact with the victim's family and demanded for five million naira.
