Kidnapped Kano Lawmaker Regains Freedom
The lawmaker representing Sumaila/Takai Federal Constituency, Garba Durbunde, who was kidnapped by unknown gunmen on Tuesday has been released.
The spokesperson of the House, Abdulrazak Namdas, confirmed this development to Premium Times on Wednesday evening.
“He has been released unhurt and is with his family,” Mr. Namdas said.
On the possibility of a ransom being paid for his release, Mr. Namdas said, “I learnt he wasn’t the actual target so he was released without any ransom.”
Mr Garba Durbunde, was abducted on the Abuja-Jere axis of the Abuja-Kaduna highway.
The House of representative member left Abuja for Kano around 5pm on Tuesday but was flagged down close to Jere Town by unknown gunmen who took him away.
Garba Durbunde, a longstanding political associate of former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso was a Commissioner for Rural and Community Development after serving in the Kano House of Assembly.
