Keke operators in Imo State on Thursday blocked the entrance into the Imo Government House.

The riders were protesting the ban on their operations by Governor Rochos Okorocha.

The keke operator protested along major roads in Owerri, the state capital before blocking the entrance to the government house with their tricycles.

The protesters disrupted the movement of other road users.

The riders said they were surprised that they have been banned completely on Thursday, contrary to the deadline date earlier given to them.

They demanded that the government sticks to the earlier agreement for operations within the metropolis to end in December.

The protest, which lasted for more than one hour, saw most passengers trekking long distances, while others waited endlessly for the operators to resume.

However, a team of policemen from the command’s headquarters was immediately deployed to government house to ensure that the protesters did not cause mayhem and breach of public peace.
