Lawmakers of the National Assembly have returned from their long recess and it is one that will whip-up so much interest from those in governance and then ordinary Nigerians.

At the Senate, lawmakers had come with renewed vigour and before the plenary began, the leadership of the Senate held a closed-door meeting.

Prior to this resumption of plenary, a lot had happened.

The Senate President had defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and this had triggered sentiments, with songs of impeachment blaring from the APC's quarters.

There were also other defections announced by the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, before he declared the recess in July.

These developments had warranted that the leadership of the Senate met, and a leaked draft of the closed-door meeting said the lawmakers discussed the future of the Eight Senate, "as it goes into its last stage" before a fresh election.

At the meeting were Dr. Saraki who recently lost a bid for the presidential ticket of the PDP to a former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Others are the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, the Senate Leader, Ahmad Lawan, the Minority Leader, Biodun Olujimi and the Chief Whip, Olusola Adeyeye.

The meeting lasted for few minutes before main proceedings stated with Dr. Saraki reporting that at the Executive Session the Senate deliberated on the workings of the Nigerian Senate in particular and the National Assembly in general.
