The leading scorer in the Nigeria Professional Football League, Stephen Odey on Thursday made a deadline day move to Swiss club FC Zurich.

Odey signed a four-year contract after passing a medical with the club. He becomes one of the numerous players across the world that made last minute switches across clubs in Europe.

The move to Europe has ruled Odey out of the CHAN and WAFU teams because he is no longer a home-based player.

The 19-year old who hitherto was with Nigerian side MFM FC has netted 18 goals this season and he is set for a new chapter in his career in Europe

Odey has been capped by Nigeria at full international and ‘B’ levels, and it is understood that he was attracting interests from clubs in Russia, Scotland Sweden, Norway and only recently underwent trails at Danish club FC Midtjylland, which ended in a fiasco.

Odey's new club, FC Zurich are top of the league in Switzerland after six rounds of matches with 12 points, a point ahead of closest rivals Young Boys and Basel.

It is worthy to note that top Nigerian stars Rashidi Yekini and Ike Shorunmu have previously featured for FC Zurich.
