JUST IN: I Sympathise With Nigerians Over Fuel Scarcity - Buhari
At a time when Nigerians are experiencing serious hardship over the unavailability of fuel, the nation's number one citizen, President Muhammadu Buhari has come out to sympathise with his country men.
In a series of tweets, President Buhari expressed dismay over the "regrettable" situation and assured that the relevant agencies were working on curbing the problem.
The fuel scarcity being experienced nationwide is regrettable. I sympathize with all Nigerians,on having to endure needless fuel queues. I'm being regularly briefed, especially on the NNPC's interventions to ensure that there is enough petrol available during this period & beyond— Muhammadu Buhari (@MBuhari) December 24, 2017
I have the NNPC's assurance that the situation will improve significantly over the next few days, as new shipments and supplies are distributed across the country.— Muhammadu Buhari (@MBuhari) December 24, 2017
I have also directed the regulators to step up their surveillance and bring an end to hoarding and price inflation by marketers.— Muhammadu Buhari (@MBuhari) December 24, 2017
Let me also assure that the relevant agencies will continue to provide updates on the situation. I thank you all for your patience and understanding.
There are long fuel queues all over the country at a time when people usually travel back to their villages for Christmas, leading transporters to significantly hike transport prices.
Meanwhile, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) have given assurances that massive distribution of products will commence in the coming days.
Till then, Nigerians keep watch at filling stations across the country.
