JUST IN: Herdsmen Set Falae's Farm Ablaze
Report says gunmen suspected to be herdsmen on Sunday set ablaze the farm of the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Chief Olu Falae.
The farm that has palm trees, cassava and yam, is located at Ilado community in Akure North Local Government area of Ondo State.
The Chief Security Officer (CSO) to the former SGF, Captain Moshood Raji, who confirmed the incident to newsmen in Akure, said one of the policemen that was guiding the farm alerted Chief Falae of the incident that occurred around 4 0'clock on Sunday's afternoon.
Captain Raji said, however, that nobody was attacked on the farm as workers were not on the farm being a Sunday.
The farm of the former presidential candidate had been attacked several times by herdsmen, who had at a time kidnapped the elder statesman for about five days.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo state, Gbenga Adeyanju says the situation had been put under control.
Adeyanju, while speaking with a local radio station in Akure, the ondo state capital, said he had already deployed adequate security to the farmland led by the Akure Area Commander.
He said that although the fire service claimed to have no water, the inferno was being contained through manual means.
He called for calm saying the fire story is not as big as being exaggerated on the social media, assuring that security men were on top of things.
“I have spoken to Baba Falae and assured him that we are on top the situation, the situation is not as bad as being exaggerated” Adeyanju said.
