Aston Villa who are former Champions League winners, in the old format when it was called European Cup, have sacked manager, Steve Bruce after series of poor results.

A 3-3 draw at home to Preston on Tuesday – in which a cabbage was thrown at Bruce during the game was the final straw that broke the camel's back.

That disappointing result has left Villa with 15 points from 11 Sky Bet Championship games and 12th in the table.

Aston Villa have just one win in 10 matches.

Villa fans had become increasingly frustrated with dull football that Bruce’s team had been playing, without results to justify it.

Villa drew 3-3 to Preston North End on Tuesday night in a see-saw of a game that either team could have won.

Bruce, who has been in charge for two years, said the spectator had shown a lack of respect.

“To say it’s disappointing is an understatement for a club like this,” said Bruce.

“Unfortunately, it sums up the society we are in at the moment. There’s no respect for anyone.”
