The leader of a cultist and kidnapping gang in Rivers State has been killed.

Civilian-General was shot dead on Wednesday during a fierce exchange of gunfire between security operatives and the notorious cult group at Omadieme community, in Ikwerre LGA.

Ikwerre, which is the LGA of the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi  and Celestine Omehia, a former governor of state, is one of the worst hit with unabated cult clashes.

Before his death, Civilian-General was allegedly responsible for the rising spate of kidnappings and killings in the area.

Residents of Ikwerre have welcomed the news of his death with excitement.

Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Samuel Nwanosike thanked security operatives for the role they are playing in fishing out criminals in the area.

He said  they will take the fight to the criminal hideouts in the local government to ensure that they are flushed out totally.

Nwanosike appealed to perpetrators of crime to turn a new leaf or  be fished out to face the law decisively.

He added that the security men will comb the forests and bushes in the area in order to arrest criminals that have made the area uncomfortable for residents.
