The Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Isah Idris Gwaram, narrowly escaped being lynched by an angry mob in his Gwaram constituency.

The speaker was in his hometown for Christmas holiday.

Trouble started when the Speaker and his team of aides including security personal entered the town on Tuesday and headed to his family resident where some youth blocked the road and started stoning him and his convoy.

The lawmaker had tried to ignore the protesting youths, as his security aides attempted to force their vehicles through the barricade mounted by the youths.

This resulted in a fracas that caused injuries to members of the Speaker’s convoy.

The situation forced the Speaker to relocate to an unknown destination.

No one knows why the youths staged the protest, but it bears signs of rising anger against political office holders.

The spokesman for the police in the state, SP Abdu Jinjiri, said "so far, I have not been inform about the situation".
