Is Remi Tinubu Plotting To Unseat Ambode In 2019?
What started out as rumour is spreading like wildfire.
If posters of her 2019 Lagos State governorship ambition currently circulating on social media is anything to be considered, then Senator Oluremi Tinubu may have a finger in the heart of god.
Remi Tinubu needs no introduction. She is the wife of Bola Tinubu, the past two-term governor of Lagos and the national leader of All Progressives Congress.
Now a senator representing Lagos Central district in the Red chamber, she was the First Lady of Lagos State between 1999 and 2007.
Remi Tinubu’s governorship ambition first came public discourse in 2014.
There were rumours then that she with her husband and other party leaders were plotting to make her succeed Babatunde Fashola as governor of the state in 2015.
She came out quickly to deny the plot, noting that governing Lagos State was not for the “tender-hearted”.
Has the pussy cat become a lioness?
"Truly, it is never my ambition to run for the governor of Lagos State.
"My husband did it for eight years and I was not an outsider to it. It is not a job for the tender-hearted.
"It is a lot of work to govern Lagos. I don’t think I have the strength to govern the present state of Lagos.
"There is still a lot of work to be done for Lagos; it’s not a child’s play. I don’t have such ambition. Maybe, I can be the Vice-President, not the governor.”
Her husband, however, threw his weight behind Akinwunmi Ambode, who won the party’s primary and was later elected governor in 2015.
But as it has often been said, there can never be smoke without fire.
Unlike in 2014, when she distanced herself from the alleged governorship bid, this time she has maintained a dignified silence.
Her silence is already causing a disquiet within the party.
Speculations about her governorship bid have further been heightened following her decision not to seek re-election into the senate after the expiration of her tenure in 2019.
Could her 2019 governorship ambition probably be the reason behind her decision not to seek re-election?

He dispelled the news as false and a political distraction.
"I am just hearing it from you that she is nursing a governorship ambition. I am not aware of that at the moment” he said.
