An injury blow has hit the Super Eagles ahead of the planned games against Corsica and Togo.

The new casualty is Leon Balogun who on Saturday suffered an injury setback while playing for German club Mainz 05 on the final day of action in the Bundesliga.

Balogun lasted for just 18 minutes on the pitch before he was hurriedly substituted and he is now the latest injury concern for the Nigeria national team ahead of the planned friendly games in France.

Nigeria face Corsica and Togo in friendlies later this month, before they host South Africa in an AFCON 2019 qualifier in Uyo next month.

Already, goalkeeper Carl Ikeme has been left out of the Eagles squad due to injury, while skipper Mikel Obi still remains doubtful for the South Africa game.

Balogun has had his own battles with injury and the extent of this knock will only be ascertained in the coming days.

The tall central defender has in recent times formed a great partnership with William Troost-Ekong in the heart of the Eagles back four and his impending absence would be largely felt.
