The highest paid Nigerian footballer, Odion Ighalo is impressively making great progress with his injured ankle and should be fit ahead of June's fixture with South Africa.

The Super Eagles are set to take on Bafana Bafana in their opening 2019 African Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifying game on June 8.

Ighalo, who moved from the English side, Watford to China in January, hurt his ankle during Changchun Yatai’s 3-2 loss to Shanghai Shenhua on 15 April.

But fears that the talented goal scorer may not be available for the Nigerian national team in a couple of months' time were diminished by the player himself.

“I have started my rehabilitation, started working in the gym and swimming pool. I will be back next weekend. From Monday I can run and train with the team,” Ighalo told Allnigeriasoccer.

The Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr is expected to name his squad for the AFCON qualifier against South Africa by the middle of May and Ighalo's name could be included.
