Immigration Arrests Dino Melaye
Senator Dino Melaye may not travel to Morocco as planned and that is because he has been arrested.
The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District in the National Assembly on Monday sent out a distress tweet, reporting his arrest at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
He was arrested by officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service after checking in for his journey to Morocco.
The distress tweet read: "I have just been arrested at the international wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe airport on my way to Morocco for an official engagement sponsored by the Federal Govt after checking in".
The Senator had been put on wanted persons list by police in March over allegations that he aided thugs in Kogi State with arms, a case that is already in court.
He had been invited by the Force headquarters in Kogi State for questioning, but he had not attended to that invitation.
Senator Melaye is known for his funny ways of addressing issues in videos that usually go viral after he makes them public. Will he release another video after he regains freedom?
Neither the service nor the police have confirmed the arrest.
On March 28, the police in Lokoja, Kogi State, said Senator Melaye's name had been sent for watch listing by Interpol for immediate arrest anywhere he is found.
A case has already been filed against him at the Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State.
He is to be arraigned over allegations of conspiracy and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms.
Melaye’s troubles started after two men arrested in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, on January 19 confessed to having committed various crimes such as kidnappings and armed robbery.
They had alleged that Senator Melaye handed them a bag of firearms.
But the Senator, who is also embattled with a recall move by his electorates hanging on his neck, appears not to be disturbed about his arrest, as depicted in a post on his Instagram page.
