I’ll Ask My People To Vote Against Buhari, APC Senator Threatens
An APC senator has dropped a bombshell that means bad news for APC ahead of the 2019 presidential elections.
This comes just days after The Economist predicted victory for PDP Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, over APC standard bearer, President Muhammadu Buhari
Speaking during his 70th birthday celebration and launch of his book 'Poorlitics' in Abuja, Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim said he would direct his people to vote against his own party in next year's election.
The federal lawmaker who chairs the Senate Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, declared that the ruling APC is worse than PDP, which it replaced over three years ago.
As far as he is concerned, Nigerians are worse off than they were in 2015.
Senator Ibrahim, a former governor of Yobe State and lawmaker currently representing Yobe East in the National Assembly, emphasised that this is not the change Nigerians voted for in 2015.
According to the septuagenarian, Buhari faces imminent defeat in the North East geopolitical zone, warning that massive rigging may not save the retired general from imminent defeat.
"The economy has gone down because of our action and inaction and we are blaming the past too much rather than solving the present problems.
"I am going to give a dire warning: let the North East not be taken for granted that we must support APC.
"Our interest in the North East has always been progressive and I will personally be watching for required improvements in the APC before the elections.
"Improvements that can guarantee victory such as respecting the rule of law and releasing political prisoners as well as unselective war against corruption as against one sided witch hunt.
"I shall sit back and continue encouraging my party to do the right thing. But if we don't, I still reserve the capacity to ask my people to go our separate ways and do what must be done for good governance to reign in Nigeria."
Senator Ibrahim hails from the same North East geopolitical zone as PDP candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
The elder statesman recently stepped down for the governor, Ibrahim Geidam in the Yobe East senatorial district seat in the forthcoming poll.
The senator's wife, Khadijat Ibrahim, currently serves as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
