ICYMI: Godswill Akpabio Decamps To PDP, Linda Ikeji Bags An Honorary Doctorate Degree
When you live in Nigeria you cannot blink, because something is always about to happen.
You must keep your eyes glued to your phones or computer screens, or you just might miss it. However if you happen to miss anything, Bounce News has got you covered.
Here's a quick recap of what was hot on social media on this day:
Linda Ikeji was awarded an Honorary Doctorate degree by Trinity International University, Georgia.
The Honorary Doctorate degree was presented to the LIB and LITV CEO in recognition of her work in media in Africa.
According to her, she was honoured for her contribution to media in Africa and as Africa's most successful blogger.
"I told you guys a few months ago to call me Princess Linda after the Arewa Youths title, but after August 8th, you will have to upgrade that to Dr. Linda Ikeji.
''I'm getting a honorary doctorate degree from Trinity International University of Georgia for my contribution to media in Africa and as Africa's Most Successful Blogger.
''I am grateful to God for how far He's brought me! And thank you for your congratulations. Love to you and yours," she wrote.
Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has stated that there was an attempt to impeach him.
He said this while addressing a press conference at the National Assembly on Wednesday.
Since he announced his defection from the APC, the ruling party has been calling on Mr Saraki to leave the post since his new party, PDP, does not have a majority in the Senate.
Reacting to this on Wednesday, Mr Saraki says he will remain in his position so long as he enjoys the support of his colleagues who elected him.
“I will not give in (to pressure). I will not. I was elected by members,” he responded to a question on his plan on calls for his removal.
They attempted to execute an illegal impeachment of the leadership of the Senate without the backing of the law, but they faltered. We are confident that, together, we shall always defeat acts of unconstitutionality.— Bukola Saraki (@bukolasaraki) August 8, 2018
A few days ago, Tiwa Savage and Duncan Mighty released "Lova Lova", and in the short period of its release the song has gathered over 300,000 views on YouTube.
Taking advantage of the hype, Tiwa released the accompanying video for the song, and it's such a great video.
On the subtle beat produced by Spellz, Tiwa sings about how she's a compatible choice for Mr. Lova Lova, saying that she "no get wahala", and begging him not to play her.
Duncan Mighty then joins her to prove his own worth as a lover.
It appears Yemi Alade just remembered her awesome vocal ability, as she's been making a conscious effort to show it off lately.
Throughout the year, she has released "How I Feel", "Elele" and now "Oh My Gosh" — all beautifully sung tracks that prove we're really getting Yemi 2.0.
"Oh My Gosh" still has elements of her Mama Africa sound.
Listen to the song below:
55-year-old former governor of Akwa Ibom, Godswill Akpabio formally defected from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) at a rally held at the Ikot Ekpene township stadium.
He told the huge crowd that he decided to join APC because he discovered that President Muhammadu Buhari ‘is a man of integrity and a nationalist’
Akpabio said that he decided to join a party that would sweep away poverty and impunity.
