A taxi driver in Ibadan, Azeez Ismaila has his work cut out for him as he tries to defend his actions when he had a violent encounter with a lady on January 18.
The Grade A Customary Court Mapo on Tuesday remanded him in Agodi prison as he continues his trial on a two-count charge of unlawful assault and stealing.
This was after the prosecutor, Sergeant Ayeni Ayodele, told the court that Azeez assaulted one Raji Mariam by using his vehicle with registration number KSH 517 XA to drag her on the ground, causing her serious injuries.
He said Ismaila also stole some items from the victim’s car which includes an Infinix phone worth 35,000 naira, ATM card and cash amounting to 4,200 naira.
According to a family member of the victim who pleaded anonymity, she explained that there was traffic on the road and she heard a bang at the back of her car, she alighted only to discover that the Nissan Micra driver had hit her car from behind.
The issue was resolved, and she went back into her car and discovered her phone, ATM card and money were gone.
She chased the vehicle and her cloth got stuck with the Nissan Micra while in motion and she was dragged on the floor.
The incident happened at about 1:15pm at Oja Oba area in Ibadan but the court is yet to establish if the missing items were indeed stolen by the driver.
Azeez also pleaded not guilty to the offence and was remanded in prison custody.
He was, however, given an option of bail in the sum of 150,000 naira with two sureties, while the case was adjourned till January 30 for further hearing.
