Hopes of Nigeria getting a medal at the ongoing World Championships got a boost on Wednesday as Blessing Okagbar qualified for the Women's Long Jump final.

Okagbare with a leap of 6.51m finished in 8th place overall on the roster of 12 athletes that made it to the final.

This is the closest Nigeria has been to wining a medal in London as no athlete before now has made it to the final in their respective events.

Okagbare will be hoping for fresh inspiration like she had in Moscow four years ago when she claimed a Silver Medal.

If she does claim a medal in Friday's final, Okagbare will go into the history books as the first Nigerian to claim two medals in the same event at the World Championships.

Unfortunately, the other Nigerian on parade in the Women's Long Jump event, Ese Brume could not pull through as she finished in 17th place with a leap of 6.38m
