While his now the highest paid Nigerian footballer across the world, Odion Ighalo says he was once an epitome of poverty.

Ighalo, who started from the humblest of beginnings in the Ajegunle ghetto of Lagos, said on Monday that he was so poor that he could not even afford earrings to look fly.

“From Ajegunle to the world, I serve a living God, this is me 11 years ago. Those earrings are not earrings, I could not even afford to buy earrings that is tape, plasta” the Super Eagles star who recently celebrated his 28th birthday wrote in an emotional facebook post he tagged 'Monday Motivation'.

The China-based striker revealed that he was dumped by his High School girlfriend who simply felt he has nothing good to offer.

“I am a testimony, I knew with God everything is possible, I was just holding on to my God, my high school girlfriend left me then because I had nothing to offer her. But I had God and I had a dream.” Ighalo stated.

Having now navigated his way past poverty into stupendous wealth, Ighalo admonished his fans to stay strong and believe in their dreams.

“Never give up on your Dream, the same God that elevated me shall elevate you , hold on to him and trust his timing. I am a testimony, you are a testimony, put God first and it's all done Amen”
