Senate President Bukola Saraki has responded to the allegations made by the leadership of the ruling, All Progressives Congress.

Saraki said he can’t descend into the gutter with the party's leaders.

He stated that the party is yet to recover from its failed coup attempt of Tuesday in the upper legislative chamber.

Reacting to a statement signed by the Acting National Publicity Secretary of APC, Yekini Nabena, wherein Saraki was described as the worse Senate President ever produced since the return of democracy in 1999, Saraki said the party’s leaders are funny characters.

Saraki in a terse statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, said he can’t descend so low to the level of the party’s leadership.

“We can’t descend into the gutter with these characters. Apparently they have not recovered from the shock of their Tuesday’s failed attempt to subvert democracy”, he stated in the one-paragraph statement.

The APC had in a statement by its acting spokesman stated that the office of the Senate President is “a position reserved for the best of the best, experienced and exemplary politicians who by their character and conduct in public offices, the younger generation look up to as role models” in every democratic dispensation.
