How Police Stopped Bandits From Attacking Zamfara Community
Arms bandit who have not been named as Boko Haram or herdsmen are on rampage in some states in Nigeria.
Zamfara is one of them.
Their activities in the past few months are on increase. Some have abducted persons while others rob homes and kill people.
However, one of their plans to attack a community in Zamfara on March 2 was foiled by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force.
They had come to invade Wuya Community in Anka Local Government Area, but were countered by police officials.
The spokesman for the Police in the state police command, Muhammad Shehu, the armed bandits came in large number on motorcycles.
Explaining how the incident occured, he said the command’s mobile police patrol team engaged the bandits, which made them to retreat into the forest with possible bullet wounds.
In a statement on Saturday, the Police spokesman said one suspect was arrested.
According to him, the police also recovered arms from the suspect.
“One suspect was arrested and 35 rounds of live 7.62 Ak-47 ammunition recovered from him,’’ he said.
Security has been beefed up in the area, he added, assuring the community and other residents of the state that the police was committed to protecting their lives and properties.
He appealed to members of the public to continue to cooperate with the police and other security agencies by always providing useful information on criminals and their activities in their areas.
