How New Year Bash Turned Violent Between APC, PDP Supporters
The sleepy town of Idanre in Ondo state was thrown into a state of confusion on Thursday.
Bounce News gathered that no fewer than 20 persons sustained serious injuries in the free-for-all fight recorded at the Isalu area of the ancient town.
One of them is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman in Idanre local government, Mr. Bola Ogundolu.
Ogundolu was said to have been rushed to an undisclosed private hospital in Idanre because of the injury sustained in the brawl.
According to a source, members of the two major political parties – APC and PDP had gotten the required police permit to organize a New Year party, but started fighting while preparing for the event.
"We learnt that members of the two political parties were to hold the get-together at different venues and that they were both granted permission by the Divisional Police Officer in the town.
“But in the morning, some APC thugs went to the house of the PDP chairman where people were preparing for the ceremony.
“The boys (suspected APC supporters) invaded the house and attacked everybody in the house. They took away the dishes that was meant for serving at the party.
“The chairman was attacked in front of the DPO when he went to report the activities of the hoodlums at the police station. He was seriously injured by the thugs."
The police’s version of the story is, however different.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Femi Joseph who confirmed the incident however said normalcy had returned to the town and that members of the two political parties had agreed to embrace peace.
"The APC sought our approval to hold the get together and we provided them security but from nowhere we learnt that the PDP members too were holding theirs and we were not aware of their own.
“That was how the clash occurred, but I can tell you now that normalcy has returned,” he said.
That is not the end of the story as there is yet another version of the report which is that the clash was between the APC and the PDP members among the commercial motorcyclists in the town.
Whose report do we believe?
