Daniel Mark has allegedly defiled his neighbour's daughter who is just 4-years-old.

He is being tried on a two-count charge for acts of gross indecency and assault.

The 35-year-old driver lives in Nasarawa Ward in Kaduna and his trial began at a Daura Road Chief Magistrates’ Court, Kaduna.

He had lured the complainant’s 4-year-old daughter into his room on February 18 and had canal knowledge of her, the prosecutor, who is a police officer, Sunday Baba, told the court.

According to him, the defendant’s neighbour, Maryam Umar, reported the matter at the Kakuri Police Station on February 28.

Baba told the court that the matter was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant had threatened to kill the victim if she told anyone about the incident.

He added that during interrogation the defendant confessed to have committed the crime.

But the defendant denied committing the crime, pleading not guilty in court.

The Magistrate, Zainab Mohammed, granted the defendant bail of 500,000 Naira with two sureties in like sum.

She said that the sureties must be residence within the jurisdiction of the court and submit two recent passport photographs.

Mohammed also ordered that the sureties must present evidence of tax payment to the Kaduna State Government and adjourned hearing until April 14.
