How Madubuchi Was Nabbed For Spending Fake Naira Note
Cyril Madubuchi along with his friend, boarded a tricycle on Monday June 12.
When they got to their bus-stop, he disembarked and presented N1,000 for the settlement of the fare for himself and his friend, and collected N900 change.
The tricycle rider, Augustine Reuben, discovered after they had left, that the money was counterfeit.
Nemesis however caught up with them when they unknowingly or stupidly boarded Reuben’s tricycle in the evening.
“The accused and his friend again boarded the complainant’s tricycle; the complainant recognized them and raised alarm.
“When they tried to escape, people around chased and apprehended Madubuchi, while his friend escaped,” narrated Nwosu.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Goerge Nwosu, told the story before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Monday when 29-year-old businessman, Cyril Madubuchi, appeared.
Madubuchi, who resides at Pen-Cinema, Agege, Lagos, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence.
The offence contravened Section 323 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised). Section 323 attracts seven years jail term for offender.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.I Raji, granted bail to the accused in the sum of 30, 000 naira.
She directed that the accused must also produce two sureties as part of the bail condition, noting that the sureties must be gainfully employed.
The case has been adjourned till June 28, for mention.
