How Herdsmen Invaded Ondo Village, 'Rain' Bullets On Farmers
The end to herdsmen menace is not yet in sight as the herders are waxing stronger in the business of terrorising their victims unchecked.
Several farmers are presently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital after sustaining gunshot injuries on Friday at Nirowo Forest, Odigbo local government area of Ondo state.
One of the victims, Sunday Wekoyo who narrated his ordeal said he was on his farm to check his traps when trapped him.
"I was in the forest to check my trap when a group of men numbering about 12 came and ordered me to come closer to them.
"I initially thought they were local vigilante group but when I came closer to them, I noticed they were herdsmen. They pointed their guns at me and immediately, I jumped on my motorcycle. When I attempted to flee, they opened their bullet on me.
"I became so weak, but I managed to walk to a nearby village where I was assisted."
The leader of the vigilante group in Ore, Olawale Aboyede also confirmed the attack.
"I was on the farm when I heard about the incident and I have to quickly mobilize my men to rescue the victims and rush him to the hospital.
"I believe the herders must have migrated from another country to unleash terror on our people."
Aboyede also disclosed that the assailants have already attacked other famers on their farmlands before descending on Sunday.
He confirmed that all the victims are currently responding to treatment in an undisclosed hospital in Ore.
Confirming the attack, the spokesman of the Ondo state police command, Femi Joseph said their men have been mobilised to the forest to fish out the attackers.
"Although it is a difficult terrain and the expanse of the forest is very huge which borders Osun, Ogun and Oyo states, but we will do our job to ensure the life of our people are secured and the invaders arrested." He noted.
