The Secretary to Ebonyi state government (SSG), Prof. Bernard Odoh, resigned his appointment in a three-page letter he wrote to governor David Umahi on April 2, 2018.

He gave several reasons for resigning, part of which was that despite his sincere effort in working to move the government and the state forward, Umahi never had trust nor confidence in him.

The former state scribe literally also said he took his decision to protect his relationship with the governor, stressing that he has more to preserve than occupy the position of the SSG.

Apparently, there were signs and this would not surprise anyone but the media aide to the Governor, Mr Emmanuel Uzo reacted by saying his office was not aware of the purported resignation.

“I am not aware of any resignation by the Secretary to the State Government and this is the official and true position of the matter.

“We have not been informed nor received the letter informing the Governor of the SSG’s resignation,” Uzo said.

And then, by Monday morning, news broke that Gov Dave Umahi of Ebonyi already appointed Dr Hygenius Nwokwu as the new Secretary to State Government (SSG).

The appointment came less than six hours after Prof Bernard Odoh, the former SSG, resigned his appointment.

The same Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Emmanuel Uzo, came back to confirm the appointment.

He said: “Yes, Dr Hygenius Nwokwu has been appointed the new SSG and his appointment is with immediate effect.

“The Governor personally signed the appointment letter and the SSG has assumed duty immediately.”
