The ADP claims that the APC deliberately attacked them because of the growing influence of the party in Ogbomoso and Oyo state at large.

The APC also claimed the ADP launched the attacks because they were not comfortable with the soaring influence and popularity of their party too.

These were the flimsy claims from both sides as supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Actions Democratic Party (ADP) had a clash leaving casualties on both sides.

The incident happened on Tuesday January 15 at about 6pm at Okelerin area, in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area of Oyo state.

The chairman of APC in Ogbomoso North local government Mr Bukola Badmus said "around 6pm, we held a rally in some areas in Ogbomoso and after the programme ended, some of our members were attacked by ADP chieftains in Okelerin in Ogbomoso

“Some of our members were macheted by the ADP thugs (and) while others were trying to challenge them, they launched proper attack and some people were injured too"

Badmus reiterated further that the ADP had been uncomfortable with the way some of their members moved into APC as this saw most of the people they considered as their stronghold captured by APC.

“So, they are not happy, and they are trying to cause crisis and scare people away from participating during the election."

“We have reliably gathered that the ADP people are planning to launch serious attack on members of APC and PDP in Ogbomoso because they consider us as threat to the chances of their candidates.”

In a counter claim, a chieftain of the ADP and member of Oyo state House of Assembly, Bimbo Oladeji, when contacted said that the APC launched an attack on some of their party chieftains and members at Okelerin area around 6pm.

Hon Oladeji who is contesting for Assembly seat in Ogbomoso North Local government said further that the attack was targeted at their governorship candidate, Adebayo Alalo-Akala and his entourage.

According to her, APC considered ADP a threat to their manipulation in Ogbomoso and Oyo State as a whole.

For both parties, what still mattered was the battle for supremacy while the injured leaked their wounds.

Prominent among the victims was Lati Kilani, a member of the ADP who sustained machete cut injury.
