The Wife of Edo Governor, Besty Obaseki, wants the introduction of vocational skills and handwork into the curricula of primary and secondary schools in the State.

The governor’s wife said that the present administration has placed priority on vocational education for students to enable them to acquire skills and be self-reliant in future.

“This administration wants to produce medium manpower through vocational skills acquisition because people are helpless when they do not have skills.”

She said this in Benin on Friday at the inauguration of Edo Child Protection Policy aimed at strengthening the child protection system.

Mrs Obaseki reiterated Edo Government’s commitment to ending child trafficking by strengthening the newly established family court, providing help lines for children to report cases of abuses; as well as instituting other strategies.

She said that Edo was the first state in the country to develop and launch such policy to mainstream child protection.

She said child protection and provision of quality education for the Edo child was at the front burner of the present administration.

She commended the steps being taken by members of the Edo Children’s Parliament toward ensuring that the rights of children in the state were not abused.
