A 49-year-old housewife, Nkiruka Ibeanu, has been brought before a Magistrates' Court in Lagos for allegedly calling a female pastor 'Ashawo' (prostitute) and threatening to kill her.

At a hearing at the Igbosere Magistrates' Court on Thursday it was learnt that Mrs Ibeanu had issued the threat in text messages sent to the pastor.

Ibeanu, who resides at Abijon in Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State, is facing a two-count charge of threat to life and breach of peace.

The prosecutor, who is a police officer, Innocent Odugbo, told the court that the accused committed the offences sometime in December 2016 in Ajangbadi area of Lagos.

The offences contravened Sections 56 and 166 (d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mr B. I. Bakare, granted the accused bail in the sum of 50,000 Naira with two sureties in like sum.

He said the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned to March 29 for mention.
