Hotels.ng, Akwaibom To Empower Over 500 Software Developers
If you an aspiring software developer living in Nigeria, this might be the break you have been waiting for.
Akwa Ibom State government and online hotel booking company, Hotels.ng, have entered a deal to train software developers through a three-month internship programme.
Hotels and Akwaibom government signed a Memorandum of Understanding to run the scheme and promote tech talents.
From September 1, 2017, Hotels.ng and Akwaibom government will organise the special internship program for residents of Akwa Ibom.
Hotels.ng in a statement said the internship program is “designed for beginner software developers and User Interface/User Experience, UI/UX designers who have a serious desire to improve on their skills”.
The interns will be given an opportunity to collaborate, innovate, solve real problems and receive stipends as they progress in the program, the statement added.
Speaking on the internship programme, Dr. Nse Udo Essien, the State's Commissioner for Science and Technology was quoted in the statement as saying that about 150 to 500 young men and women will be part of the internship program.
He added that the State’s Ibom e-library would be open to all the interns during the internship period.
The internship program is “a great opportunity for participants to plug into the rising global trend of the remote working culture while learning valuable skills,” said Mark Essien who is the company’s CEO.
Hotels.ng, one of Nigeria’s most successful startups, organises what it calls a remote-internship programme two times a year drawing participants from across Nigeria.
The registration for the internship programme is ongoing as it is billed to start by October.
So, if you are a tech lover looking to make a career out of software development, and you are un(fortunate) to be at home because of the ASUU strike, you need to grab this opportunity.
