Herdsmen VS Farmers: Cattle Rustlers Blamed For Crisis In Gombe
The recurring cases of alleged criminal herdsmen unleashing terror on communities leaving in their trail tears and blood requires lasting interventions.
The secretary, Gombe state chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Aminu Sule Wuro-Boki has attributed the lingering crisis between herdsmen and farmer to the activities of cattle rustlers.
According to him, cattle rustlers who kill their victims, rustle their cows and destroy farms on their way in a bid to escape.
Aminu Wuro-Boki stated this at the event where Gombe state police command handed over 35 cattle that were rustled from Taraba state and the suspects arrested in dadin-kowa, Yamaltu Deba local council area.
The Commissioner of Police Gombe command, Shina Tairu Olukolu had on 10th July 2018 paraded the suspects; Usman Sale from Yobe state and Mohammed Mustapha Garba from Gombe state.

The suspects were traveling from Taraba state with about 35 cattle they could not account for.
Addressing newsmen, the police boss said, “I am pleased to inform you that one Alhaji Mohammed Umar Borno Kurukuru Bali local government of Taraba state recently surfaced and identified the herd of cattles that was intercepted at Kurgele village by operatives from Dadin-Kowa”.
He stated that the cattles were stolen from Gindin Doruwa/Mararaba Bayisa, Donga LGA of Taraba state during communal clash between Kuteb and Fulani where he lost about 70 cows.
Representative of the Taraba state chapter of MACBAN Alhaji Muhammed Madugu told Bounce News that the organization had investigated and certified that Alhaji Mohammed Umar is the true owner of the recovered cattle.
Gombe state office of the Miyetti Allah charged security agents and agencies to launch an unbiased investigation into the lingering problem of farmers and herders across the country and find a lasting solution.
"It is high time we stopped the blame game and protect the lives of innocent herdsmen and farmers in the country,” he said.
