President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday met with the leadership of the National Assembly to discuss the security situation in some Nigerian States.

The herdsmen attack on Benue State topped discussions at the meeting held at the Presidential Villa.

Announcing the meeting on Twitter, the Presidency said Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara were present.

President Buhari called the meeting to brief the National Assembly on the Presidency’s ongoing efforts to secure Benue.

This meeting is coming 13 days after the New Year attack on a community in Benue by arms-carrying herdsmen left at least 70 persons dead. They were buried last week.

Critics have raised issues over why the government had not tackled the crisis head-on since the rate of attacks increased in 2016.
