8-year-old Jafar Abdullahi of Arawa quarters, Gombe looked emaciated with marks all over his body. 

He could barely muster a word as he has been deprived of food and water for days.

The kid was said to have been rescued by men and officers of the police command from a poorly ventilated room where he was locked up for days by his parents.

According to the police, the boy was rescued following a petition written by Human Rights Organization to the police command.


The police said the kid was locked up by his father Abdullahi Umar and step mother.

Police Public Relations Officer of the Gombe State Police Command, DSP Obed Mary Malum said Abdullahi Umar and wife are currently at large.

The police said the boy is receiving medical treatment at Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe.

Investigation is said to be ongoing to unravel the reason behind the inhumane treatment meted to Jafar.

The statement further said that, the police have arrested three suspects in case of armed robbery that have left one dead in Talase, Balanga local government area of the state.

"Investigation revealed that the victims went to Gelengu village to buy fairly used handset, when they were attacked by suspects who inflicted various degree of injuries on them. 

As a result, one Hayatu Aliyu was rushed to General Hospital Balanga and he was confirmed dead by a medical practitioner,” the police stated.

The three suspects arrested with machete and sticks on 8th September 2018 are currently under investigation.
