Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally, trailing heart disease, and is responsible for an estimated 9.6 million deaths in 2018.

Globally, about 1 in 6 deaths is due to cancer and this should be a cause of worry for anyone.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 70% of deaths from cancer occur in low- and middle-income countries which Nigeria belongs to.

"Around one third of deaths from cancer are due to the 5 leading behavioural and dietary risks: high body mass index (over weight), low fruit and vegetable intake, lack of physical activity, tobacco use, and alcohol use.

"Tobacco use is the most important risk factor for cancer and is responsible for approximately 22% of cancer deaths.

"Cancer causing infections, such as hepatitis and human papilloma virus (HPV), are responsible for up to 25% of cancer cases in low- and middle-income countries.

Cancer, however, is not only taking lives, it is collecting money from people and putting it in the hands of some other persons.

"The economic impact of cancer is significant and is increasing.

"The total annual economic cost of cancer in 2010 was estimated at approximately US$ 1.16 trillion.

Only 1 in 5 low- and middle-income countries have the necessary data to drive cancer policy," WHO added.

Here is a little brake down of the kinds of cancer cases that have claimed the most lives.

Lung (2.09 million cases)
Breast (2.09 million cases)
Colorectal (1.80 million cases)
Prostate (1.28 million cases)
Skin cancer (non-melanoma) (1.04 million cases)
Stomach (1.03 million cases)
The most common causes of cancer death are cancers of:

Lung (1.76 million deaths)
Colorectal (862 000 deaths)
Stomach (783 000 deaths)
Liver (782 000 deaths)
Breast (627 000 deaths)

The Seven Essentials

Cancer does not respect those who are doctors. It attacks everyone who gives it an opportunity to come in. It is like that stranger that stays at the door of your mouth and knock.

In a video published by the 'Truth About Cancer on YouTube', Dr. Veronique Desaulniers, a breast cancer survivor, shared her experience and gave Seven Essentials that can help anyone keep cancer away and can also help people struggling with the disease come through.

She called it the Seven Essentials and said it was a seven-step-programme that anybody can follow to keep cancer away.

"Cancer is not the disease itself it is the tip of the iceberg that tells you that your immune system is weak.

"It is something that develops over a period of time. You are not a victim of it. You have a lot of control over it," she said.

She listed the seven essentials

1. Make Food Your Medicine

Dr. Josh Axe had in a training on Leaky Gut and how it is affecting people, emphasised that you are what you digest and not just what you eat.

fruits and vegetables

Emphasising the role of food in ensuring that cancerous cells do not become killers, Dr. Desaulniers said: "We know that food has a huge impact on our genetic expression and we know that it can literarily turn on specific cancer protective genes and we know that through the science of epigenetics and nutrigenomics.

2. Reduce Your Toxic Exposure. Detoxify

If you live in Lagos, Nigeria's commercial city, you will see that most big red busses usually referred to as BRT are emitting black smoke.

That smoke deposits toxin in the system of those that inhale it.

There are other forms of toxin, like the Ojota dumpsite that got burnt the last time. All that deposit toxin in your body and that is why you need to detoxify.

Even the food you eat that was planted with with fertiliser, sometimes have toxins.

According to Dr. Desaulniers, "we live in a toxic world, we can’t deny that, but there are things that you can do specifically to help support the detoxification pathways in your body and to prevent all the toxins from entering into your body".

You can decide to take some natural fruits and vegetables that help detoxify, like beetroot, lemon and red kidney beans, among others

3. Balance Your Energy

"Humans are energetic beings and what can you do to keep that electricity in that energy flowing properly?.

"Chiropractic care, acupuncture, exercise, proper sleep, making sure that your homes are balanced.

"Hormones are key in so many hormone-driven cancers," she stressed.

4. Heal Your Emotional Wounds

If you have formed the habit of keeping grudges or holding back emotions, this is a time to begin to let go.

Learn to nurture yourself. Love yourself and to forgive yourself and others and manage your stress better.

Let go of the past, because if you keep stuffing those emotions inside, they will grow tumour, she says.

It is either you grow your life or you grow tumour.

You have to change that emotional component.

5. Look At Biological Dentistry

"Your teeth has a huge impact on your health. Your teeth are connected to your organ through your meridian system, what you have in your teach affects your life because of the toxic amount in there is causing toxicity in the body," she says.

Your teeth can also cause cancer

6. Look To Herbs Supplements And Vitamins For Help

Herbs are out there that have components that will help to reduce your toxic load that can help heal the cancer and actually kill cancer cells and boost your immune system.

7. True Prevention.

Practice true prevention. Traditional medicine does not teach true prevention even though it provides cure. This is where you can add technology to detect cancer when it is at the size of a pen head instead of waiting until it is the size of a lump that you can detect on an x-ray or mammogram.

Tomography can read physiological changes going on in the body.

high blood pressure

There are specific blood tests like the cancer profile which measures the hCG hormones, the PHI which checks the malignancy hormones and TK1 Enzyme among others.

If you can stay up on your health monitoring to be sure there is nothing to worry about, there is no reason to fear cancer.
