A 24-year-old man in Ogun State, who wanted chicken to eat but was not willing to buy it, decided to steal one and landed himself in trouble.

The man whose name and address was not disclosed, took the hen and eggs on April 5 at about 5:00 a.m.

He had tip-toed into the place the hen was while the owner was sleeping in his apartment in Tiwadayo Community, Atan, Ota, Ogun State.

After the owner of the hen noticed it was missing, he reported the issue to the police landing the thief in trouble.

He was subsequently taken to Ota Senior Magistrates’ Court.

At the hearing of the case on Wednesday, the accused admitted that he stole the hen and eggs and he was sentenced to one month imprisonment for stealing the hen and eggs valued at 3,000 Naira.

The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, however, gave the convict an option of 3,000 Naira fine.

The convict, whose address was not disclosed in the court, had pleaded guilty to the charge.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Chudu Gbesi, who is a police officer,  had told the court that the accused stole a hen and eggs valued at 3,000 Naira belonging to one Usman Tajudeen.

He said that the offence contravened Section 390 of the Criminal Code Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
