#HappeningNow: Magodo/Shangisha Residents Protest Installation Of New Oba (PHOTOS/VIDEO)
Residents of Magodo/Shangisha have besieged the Lagos State government house in protest of the installation of the new Oba, Jamiu Lawal who was installed over the weekend.
The angry residents who were demanding to speak with the governor, Akinwumi Ambode claim that Oba Lawal was imposed on the community against the will of the people.
According to them, there was already an existing Baale, Chief Mutiu Yusuf Ogundare, whom the residents are demanding be upgraded to an Oba.
The also alluded to the fact that the newly installed Oba was done in cahoots with some elements from the state government, a representative of which attended Oba Lawal's coronation.
Furthermore, the residents claimed that Oba Lawal is not even resident in the Magodo/Shangisha area, but stays at Oregun. He has, however, managed to corner some land in the Magodo area upon his coronation.
The group amidst angry chants, were later addressed by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Civic Engagement, Taiwo Aiyedun who promised to provide a resolution to their demands.
Meanwhile, 5 members from the group have since been taken in to meet with the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Abulakin Abdul Lateef.
