HAPPENING NOW: Over 25 SANs In CCT For CJN Onnoghen

About 25 Senior lawyers on the defence team of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Samuel Onnoghen, have arrived at the Code of Conduct Tribunal
At least 25 Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) are currently at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) as part of the defence team of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen.

Notable faces among the senior lawyers already in court are: Wole Olanipekun, Adegboyega Awomolo, Kanu Agabi, Chris Uche, Yusuf Ali, Garba Tetengi, Effiong Offiong and Kehinde Ogunwumiji.

Others are Paul Erokoro, Tawo Tawo, Victoria Awomolo, Sebastine Hon and Chukwuma-machukwu Ume among others.

On the part of the federal government, Umar Aliyu (SAN) is already in court and he is expected to lead the prosecution team.

He was the prosecutor during the trial of Senate President Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu before an FCT High Court.

The CJN is yet to arrive at the CCT as at 9:48am. The tribunal is expected to start proceedings by 10am.

The federal government, in a six-count charge filed at the CCT on January 11, accused Nigeria’s head of judiciary of failure to declare his assets between June, 2005 and December, 2016 contrary to provisions of section 15(1) of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act Cap C15 LFN 2004 and punishable under section 23(2) a, b, and c of the same Act.
