He may have noticed the men when it was too late.

Professor Paul Otasowie was gunned down right in front of his residence on Ekehuan road in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo state on Wednesday evening.

There are presently various speculations on why the senior staff of the University of Benin in Edo state was killed.

While some say it was an assassination, others say the man who was a professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, was mistakenly killed in a failed kidnap attempt.

A third postulation, is that it was an armed robbery attack that led to his demise.

The Public Relations Officer of the institution, Michael Osasuyi, confirmed the incident on Thursday.

The spokesperson for the university stated his concerns over security of lives in the state.

“The vice-chancellor, Prof. Orunmwense is saddened with this development. We just wish that this insecurity in Edo State is looked into. Just recently, (Joseph) Osayomore was kidnapped.

“The level of insecurity now is becoming something else. The vice-chancellor commiserates with the family and the school is mourning,”  he said.
