The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the death of two police officers and a civilian during a gun battle with suspected kidnappers along the Woji Alcon road.

The Police Public Relations officer Nnamdi Omoni in an interview with correspondent on Thursday said the incident happened within the hours of 9-10pm on Wednesday, August 29th.

He said the unknown gunmen were trying to kidnap an expatriate who works with Total company.

“It is sad that at this time that we the police force is fighting criminality people are still perpetrating evil,'' he said.

The police PRO also said one of the police officers is currently in the hospital receiving treatments hoping that when he recovers he will give more information.

Meanwhile some eyewitness narrated how the incident happened to our correspondent.

They said the unknown gunmen shot sporadically not minding who was around the area.

The gunmen were said to have opened fire on the police officers, who were attached to the expatriate.

The gumen, however, failed in their mission to kidnap the expatriate  as other officers in the convoy repelled the attack

The eyewitnesses called on the Rivers State government to make security top most in this administration.
