No fewer than 10 persons were abducted on Wednesday by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers in Rivers State.

The victims, who were boat passengers, Bounce News learnt, were abducted in Akuku Toru Local Government Area of the state.

The victims, including a community leader identified as Benibo, were said to be returning to Abonema from a neighboring community, Idama in the same local council area.

They attended a meeting called to resolve a leadership tussle in Idama community when the gunmen struck and whisked them away.

A relative of one of the occupants of the attacked boat told our correspondent that no contact had been established with the gunmen.

He revealed that there had been tension in the community as other leaders were currently in a meeting over the issue.

The Chairman of Akuku Toru local government council, Rowland Sekibo, has confirmed the abduction to journalists.

However, when contacted, spokesman of the Rivers state Police Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, said he is yet to be briefed about the incident.
