There was confusion in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State State, following the abduction of two persons there.

The victims identified as Barrister John Joseph, who is Ward 8 APC leader in the local government and Stephenson, a lawyer, were abducted at gunpoint on Monday along Iloabuchi-Eagle Island road in the area.

A close relation of one of the victims, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent, said his brother and his colleague were returning from a political meeting from GRA, in the state's capital, when they were ambushed and taken to an unknown place.

The victim’s relative, who pleaded anonymity for security reasons, disclosed that a blood stain was also found inside his car, which was recovered behind the Rivers State University by police officers attached to Iloabuchi Division.

Family sources said the kidnappers had not contact any member of the family and pleaded that the victims should be freed unhurt.

The abduction has thrown Emohua area into confusion with claims and counter-claims on the possible reasons for their kidnap.

While many claimed the abduction may be political and targeted at some APC members ahead of the 2019 general elections, others claimed the abduction was carried out by gunmen interested in abduction for ransom.

The Rivers Police Command’s spokesman, (PPRO), Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the incident but said efforts were on to rescue the victims.

He also called on anyone with relevant information to report to the authorities to aid the efforts.
