Governor Ortom In Huge Shock As Benue PDP Lawmaker Joins Buhari’s APC
The lawmaker representing Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency of Benue State, Dickson Terkighir, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
The lawmaker made his decision known in a letter addressed to the House and was read by the Deputy Speaker, Rep. Yussuf Lassun at the plenary on Tuesday.
Members of the APC on the floor of the House were delighted at the development, screaming party slogans and throwing eight fingers in the air.
The lawmaker said, in his letter, that politics was local and that he had consulted with his constituents before the decision was reached.
Terkighir's defection was said to have shocked the state governor, Samuel Ortom who is seeking re-election for a second term.
The lawmaker's defection came at a time the governor was consolidating his hold on the PDP having defected from APC.
Tarkighir contested for the House of Reps ticket in the just-concluded PDP primaries.
He lost with 80 votes to Bem Mzondu, who scored 102 votes.
