Government Now Feeds 7.7 Million Pupils
At least 7.7 pupils are benefiting from the Nigerian government's National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP), the Presidency said on Tuesday.
According to a statement by the handlers of the programme, pupils in 24 states are currently benefiting from it.
While the government is looking to spread the benefit to the remaining 11 States, it said the programme had aided the stimulation of local agricultural production. Majority of the food stuffs used in preparing the food are sourced locally.
The school feeding programme is also aimed at increasing the nutrition of the children in schools.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who was in Ondo State last week, said some new enrolments were recorded in a school in the state as a result of the feeding programme.
The government says it also improves and enhances the retention of pupils in schools especially in primary schools, causing a multiplier effect on the economy.
Here is a tweet by the NHGSFP announcing the latest number of pupils benefiting from the programme.
