Sometimes one wonders if there is no place for a technocrat in governance if the individual is not a politician.

Katsina State Commissioner of Education, Professor Halimatu Idris, has been sacked by the state government.

She was sacked to give room for a politician to take over the position.

Idris is a Professor of Biological Sciences in the University of Abuja. She was appointed a commissioner in 2015.

Governor Aminu Masari while explaining why Idris was sacked said it had become necessary for the government to bring more active politicians on board so as to fasten activities of governance.

In a statement the governor’s spokesperson, Abdu Labaran, quoted a letter personally signed by the governor thanking Idris for the services she rendered as commissioner of education.

The governor said during her term as commissioner, "schools were rehablitated and upgraded, new ones were constructed, teachers were trained and the atmosphere made more conducive for learning and teaching”.

According to him, "as political activities for the 2019 general elections are about to commence, it becomes imperative for the government to bring more active politicians on board to fasten activities of governance".
