Gov. Akeredolu Moves To Build Five More Mother And Child Hospitals
Looking at the state of Mother and child Hospital in Akure, one will definitely question the rationale behind the setting up of more similar facilities by the Ondo state government.
The idea which was first conceived and birthed by the Mimiko's led-government was seen as a huge relief to the less-privilege members of the public who accessed the facility at no cost.
The emergence of Rotimi Akeredolu administration, however, brought a new deal to the table and the teeming beneficiaries of the free medical service had to be paying through their noses to access the facility.
With the failure of the governor to put the hospital in it's proper shape after it was affected by a heavy storm in May 2018, many have concluded that the idea of free medical care for pregnant mothers was not part of the bargain in this present government.
But against all speculations, the state commissioner for Health, Dr. Wahab Adegbenro, while addressing reporter after the executive council meeting said the state government had approved five more mother and child hospital across the state.
A health worker in the hospital claimed that the generality of the workers were already expecting that the mother and child hospital would be merged with the state specialist hospital.
"We have already believed we would be merged with the state hospital because since the inception of this government, attention has been shifted from mother and child.
"I wonder how the government can manage five when it cannot even sustain this one."
