Gombe Police Celebrate Drop In Rape Cases Across The State
Incidents of rape in Gombe state is in decline, says the Gombe State Command of the Nigerian Police.
The command said the incidents of rape which had been on the rise have dropped in the last two months.
According to the Command's boss, CP Muhammad Mukaddas, the state command used to receive two to three rape cases every single day.
Mukaddas who paraded about twenty-three suspects arrested for a number of crimes, and paraded before news men at the headquarters of the police command, said such incidents have reduced to about three in the last two months.
“The incident has reduced drastically because we now have few of such complains or cases” he said.
He further said that it is rather unfortunate that such an act is happening in the society, and enjoined parents and residents in the state to cooperate and furnish the police command with credible information that will lead to combating crimes and criminality in the state.
“It is our sincere promise that information divulged to us shall be treated with utmost confidentiality” he added.
Of the twenty-three suspects paraded on Tuesday, only three were arrested on charges of rape.
And according to the CP Mukaddas, the most worrisome case is that of a 28-year-old Boniface Babangida who lured a 5 year old child into his room, with the trick to buy her Bobo Juice, and raped her in Cham town, Balanga local government council.
Another suspect in the police net is Ishaku Hassan, an 18-year-old who lives at ARC quarters, local Gona, Sabon Bariki in Akko LGA. He was involved in a case of Unlawful Possession, Criminal Intimidation and Rape.
According to the police investigation on the suspect and one Sa’adu Hassan who is now at large, the two suspects ambushed two young orphans aged 14 and 15 years old, while they went to get fire wood in the bush.
The suspects threatened them with a long knife and a Dane gun, stating that they would kill them if they refused their demands, and then dragged them into a valley and raped them.
The police also paraded 18 year old Seth Sunday arrested in a case of burglary, criminal trespass, attempted culpable homicide and rape.
CP Mukaddas told Bounce News that the suspect trespassed and broke into the house of 22 year old Maimuna Abu-Ubaida Mu’azu through the kitchen window, picked a knife from the kitchen and attacked the victim who eventually sustained injury around her neck before she could raise alarm.
The 18 years old Seth Sunday, a Senior Secondary School, SSS 2 student in an interview told Bounce News that “It is true I did it, but I don’t know why”.
He confirmed that the victim was his neighbour at FRSC quarters Lafiyawo, Tumfure in Akko LGA Gombe State.
“I live in flat B while she lived in flat B17, I live in peace with her in the quarters, I still can’t believe why I went after her,” Seth said.
The police boss assured that having confessed to the crimes, the suspects would soon be charged to court for the law to take its course.
