Gombe Emirate Council Goes Tough On Rape
The Emir of Gombe Abubakar Shehu Abubakar has promised to hold a meeting with relevant authorities to curtail the problem of rape in the state.
The royal father made the promise when he received a team of Gombe State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and High Level Women Advocates (HLWA) supported by UNICEF who paid him homage to mark the 2018 celebration of the African Child.
The 2018 African Child celebration which was tagged “Education Matters For Every Child” features a rally from the Emir’s palace to Hassan Central primary school where debate by pupils from five local government areas of the state was held.
Representative of SUBEB, Zulhatu Madugu said 6th June of every year is set aside to celebrate the African Child explaining that the state could not mark on that day because of the Sallah celebration.
She advised the pupils to take their studies serious and charged parents to send their wards to school.
Magud said without education life will be difficult as it is the key to positive development.
Also speaking the permanent secretary Gombe state ministry of High Education Salamatu Buba Biri said every child is entitled to be educated, stressing that education is a right to every child and not privileged hence the need to ensure that every child irrespective of sex or religion is sent to school.
Salamatu Buba Biri also called on children to be good behavior and shun bad company.
The day of African child is celebrated to commemorate children killed during the Soweto uprising in South Africa and to recognize the courage of students who marched for their right to an education.
The day also serve as an opportunity to raise awareness for the ongoing need to improve on the education of children living across Africa because over half of the fifty seven million primary school age children currently out of school around the World are from sub-Saharan Africa.
