Gombe District Head Decries Menace Of Armed Robbery
The police in Gombe have been asked to end cases of armed robbery by cracking down on robbery syndicates operating and causing havoc.
The District head of Herwa-gana and Kunbiya-kunbiya wards in Gombe Local Government Area, Inuwa Lamido (Iyan Gombe), gave the charge.
He appealed to the Gombe State Police Command to beef up efforts targeted at eradicating crime in the state, especially in the state capital.
The ward head, whose house came under attack on Tuesday by a syndicate of armed robbery gang lamented the increased cases of burglary within the Jewel city.
He told Bounce News that the Tuesday attack, which was the second one in 7 days, was dreadful.
He said the group killed one of their own at the gate of his house.
"My security guard noticed a movement around my gate where Keke Napep (Tricycle Riders) park, so he tried to look outside to confirm what the noise, but a group of armed young men, numbering about ten, gave him a hot pursuit.
"So, the guard raised alarm and they ran back, leaving one of their own behind. Unfortunately, when the gang member who remained behind rushed back to join his colleagues, he was shot by one of them mistaking him for the guard", Iyan Gombe told Bounce News.
He added that the suspect died of the gunshot wound at the scene.
According to him, “going by way these boys are on rampage, there is the need for the Commissioner of police to strengthen his efforts by supporting communities planning to setup vigilante with one or two officers who bear arms to help secure the society”.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Gombe State, CP Muhammad Garba Mukaddas, in a statement signed by the Public Relation Officer of the Command, DSP Obed Mary Malum, reiterated the commitment of officers and men of the command to take proactive measures to combat crime.
He also said that based on a complaint received, some suspects have been arrested by men of Gona Division but in connection with other robberies within the metropolis.
These include: Yunusa Magaji alias Boxer (24), Suleiman Abubakar Alias Baban Bariki (24)and Abdullahi Aliyu alias Shanchi (20).
According to CP Mukaddas, the suspects conspired on December 1 and entered into the house of Usman Musa of Dubai quarters in the city of Gombe and robbed him of 480 Dollars, 180 Saudi Riyals and about 2 million Cefas.
The suspects used knives, sticks and cutlasses and threatened to kill him if he did no surrender the money in his possession.
