Three Presidents from West Africa sub-region have congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on his victory in the presidential election of February 23. 

Presidents of ECOWAS member states congratulated President Buhari through messages sent after the electoral body's declaration of Buhari as the winner of the election, his spokesman, Femi Adesina, said on Wednesday. 

"Minutes after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him winner of the 2019 elections, three Presidents from the West African sub-region sent congratulatory messages to President Muhammadu Buhari," he wrote in a statement.

According to him, President Nana Koffi-Addo of Ghana, Mahamadou issoufou of Niger, and Macky Sall of Senegal, who himself just won re-election for a second term, sent in messages.

"The Presidents felicitated with President Buhari, saying his re-election was a demonstration of the confidence Nigerians had in him, and wishing him greater exploits," Mr Adesina added.

President Muhammadu Buhari polled 15,191,847 votes to defeat the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, who garnered 11,262,978 votes.
