Only the Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) are authorised to inspect and verify vehicle particulars.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) are not authorized to do so.

The Commissioner for Works, Transport and Energy in Benue, Emmanuel Manger, said this on Friday in Makurdi, the Benue state capital while interacting with journalists.

The commissioner explained that VIO is responsible for the issuance of drivers’ license while the FRSC print and present license for signing by VIO.

He added that any drivers' license signed by the FRSC instead of VIO would not be considered.

As for the Police, he admitted that they can demand for vehicle particulars because they have the duty to tackle crime.

"Screening vehicle particulars by the police is a way of detecting criminals.

"Apart from that, it is the duty of VIO and not any other agency of government to check or verify vehicle particulars," he said.
